This years trip to LoLA in Boston starts with my arrival at London Heathrow. Getting there nice and early and being one of the first to arrive at the gate has not benefitted me at all. 1hr on from scheduled boarding time, we are now waiting for a 'replacement electronic part' to arrive. Where do you get 'replacement electronic parts' for a Virgin Jumbo? Dixons?

A room full of hot in-patient travellers makes the wait no less easy, but the gentle tones of a Virgin rep telling us its considerably cooler out here than in that plane quell the crowd a little. It makes me wonder - when are we entitled to food and drink vouchers?

Some of you would even squirm at what you are about to read, and I am about to write. Anyway, I'll continue... our publishing department (Communications) at IHQ has equipment that is soon due for replacement. On Friday, I chatted with the head of department and shared with him my thoughts that I would be prepared to look at Macs if he were interested. To say he was shocked, is probably an understatement. Not that he wasn't interested - but that he has known my standing on these 'evil machines' for sometime.

Having come from a position of not even wanting to see a machine with an image of any type of fruit on it, to embracing the strengths and productivity of using a Mac is quite a journey.
But it's now that I am truly beginning to see some of the benefits of working with these strange machines. Not only that, but having no fear that they would or could infect my network, in fact quite the contrary.

So, my colleague is going to think about his new possibilities, and will let me know if he wants to take me up on the offer to replace his 3yr old PCs with Macs. Am I doing the right thing, or is this a dreadful misguided mistake?

In recent days, it's struck me how bad schools are at getting the 'we're closed' message out - possibly because they don't close all that much. You can either wait for a broadcast on local radio (at best twice an hour) or try to access a county council website that has so many hits it can't keep up.

So I started looking for bulk SMS texting options. I came accross www.txtlocal.co.uk and at potentially 7p for message is cheap too. Why not take a look (if you're in the UK)
